CALLAWAY PLANTATION-A restored working plantation with historic structures including a schoolhouse, a log cabin and a Manor House (c. 1869).

KETTLE CREEK BATTLEFIELD-Visitors can take selfguided tours of this battlefield, the site of a 1779 Revolutionary War battle that broke the british hold over Georgia. A Revolutionary War Cemetery, historic markers and monuments help tell the story.

ROBERT TOOMBS HOUSE STATE HISTORIC SITE-Visitors can tour the house (c. 1797) and grounds of this former State Legislator, U. S. Congressman, Senator and Confederate General.

WASHIGNTON HISTORIC MUSEUM-Located in a white antebellum house, contains displays of Wilkes County, the Civil War and a gun and arrowhead collection.

Calendar of Events:

CANDLELIGHT OPEN HOUSE Held the Tuesday before Thanksgiving every Nov. Downtown will be decorated with luminaries, special evening shopping hours and sales, free refreshments and entertainment. Free to the public. Sponsored by the Downtown Counsil.

CHRISTMAS PARADE AND LIGHTING OF THE TREE-This annual event is held in downtown Washington and the public is invited. The Parade is sponsored by the Jaycee's and the Lighting of the Tree is sponsored by the Pilot Club.

CHRISTMAS DINNER AND HOLIDAY TOUR
Held in early Dec. and features a number of private homes open only for this tour. This wonderful holiday dinner and tour will be the highlight of your Christmas season. Sponsored by the Washington-Wilkes Historic Foundation.

CHRISTMAS AT CALLAWAY PLANTATION
Held each Dec. Be sure to come and enjoy a plantation Christmas the way the first settlers of Wilkes County experienced it.

WASHINGTON-WILKES TOUR OF HOMES
Held the first Saturday in April, and featuring private homes open only for this tour, also features many churches, public buildings, museums, and other sites. This event is sponsored by the Women's Club, and the Kiwanis Club and the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce.

CRUISE-IN ON THE SQUARE ANTIQUE CAR SHOW
Held the second Saturday in May and Sept. Antique cars and trucks cruise in to be displayed on the square. Open to the public. Sponsored by the Downtown Council.


MULE DAY SOUTHERN HERITAGE FESTIVAL
Held early in Oct. A celebration of plantation life in the Old South with mule contests, primitive demonstrations, food, craft show and fun for the whole family. Held at Callaway Plantation. Sponsored by the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce.

WASHINGTON-WILKES AIRPORT FLY-IN
Held in conjunction with Mule Day in October. Airplanes from all over fly-in to the airport which is adjacent to Callaway Plantation to enjoy activities at the airport and at Mule Day. Sponsored by Washington Aviation
